Researcher at JADS and data scientist
Daan Kolkman is a researcher at the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science. He specializes in computational sociology, responsible data science and natural language processing. He got his PhD at the Centre for Research in Social Simulation at the University of Surrey (UK) on the subject of using computer models to inform decision makers in the public sector. As a part of his research he collaborated with the Centraal Planbureau, the Kadaster and the English Department for Work and Pensions. At JADS he is involved in the Visualisation and Natural Language Processing courses as well as Master thesis advisor.
Daan is one of the co-owners of The Big Data Company that develops data driven software solutions (risk models, recommendation engines, social sensing algorithms) for built environments, with a focus on retail and fast moving consumer goods. He is also one of the initiators behind the JADS MKB Datalab. This initiative is aimed at unlocking data science for small and medium-sized enterprises.
